Responsive website build for The Yard Creative
jonwallacedesign have been working with The Yard Creative since 2013, initially taking over the build of the previous The Yard Creative website to enhance it and make it responsive. During 2016 The Yard Creative underwent a total rebrand, including the need for a new website to better reflect the fantastic creative team of talent working at The Yard. The design team at The Yard came up with some desktop sized designs which I took on board along with a bunch of interaction ideas. The brief was simple, take the provided designs as a guide and make up a responsive website to make the new brand and our work look better than anything else around! Oh... and it needs a custom CMS workflow to allow us to easily update the website and continue to add in new work, blogs and news posts...
The first stage of the project was to take the desktop designs and work out how we could make them work on smaller screen devices, this was handled in the agile build process, where we provided design consultancy regarding the suggested implementation of the provided flat designs, sliced up and adapted the provided designs to create a fluid and responsive layout which would work across a wide range of agreed screen sizes. A key element of the new website was the desire to impress the user with large, eye-catching photos / images - we therefore developed a website which allows the easy inclusion of large photos/images throughout to promote the wonderful work The Yard Creative create for their clients. The CMS is built on MODx Revo, enabling us to create a tailor made CMS solution 100% bespoked to suit the content requirements of the various sections of the TYC website - for example, we have custom input fields for every piece of content that a new project requires, then a selection of optional fields so that additional info / images / videos can be included, and things like the background and text colour of each project can also be bespoked to suit the design style of the project being displayed.
The website is full of nice little surprises and clever UI elements, for example - we use some nifty accordion elements, allowing us to can keep the page length at a controlled level, even when a page has a lot of content! The website has been very well received both by the client and the end users, and the team at The Yard are busy adding new projects, blogs and news items as they are published.

JWD was the only agency that asked probing questions about our brief and when the quote came in it was super detailed but it was also competitive. We will continue to work with jonwallacedesign - digital design studio as we have enjoyed the experience thus far and really value having an honest, reliable expert on tap to advise and create bespoke digital solutions for us.
